Today’s question is from foxydot:

“The mercury is going to creep over 100F today in Cincinnati. How do you keep cool? Do you have a strategy to deal with hot weather and cold offices/stores/etc?”

If I’m on campus, find a basement study room and camp there for the day. If there are places that I know of that are well air conditioned, the probability of them getting my business increases. Also, going for a late afternoon swim really helps, especially if it is in a natural body of water like the lake or ocean (just make sure it is safe). Drink lots of water. Stand in front of the fridge with the door open for extended periods of time (note - this is not energy efficient). Find somewhere well ventilated. Lay on a concrete floor. Be distracted. Take a cold shower. Wear appropriate clothing. Keep skin covered. Wear sunglasses. Go longboarding (not sure if that helps, but it is still fun). How’s that for suggestions?

    Let’s see…

    1. Eat popsicles.
    2. Drink really cold water.
    3. Live in an arctic terrain.
    4. Go somewhere with extreme a/c (preferably a deep freezer)
    5. Distract yourself by watching TV
    6. Eat ice.
    7. Go to an aquatic center (water slides, etc.)
    8. Wear as little as you safely can for the occasion & audience.

    Nothing too original, sorry. ;)

By the way, Stephen, I LOVE the “stand in front of the fridge with the door open for extended periods of time” idea. Because WHO hasn’t done that before? Lol.

I’m near Indy, which is about 2 hours from 100 degree Cincy. Our temperatures have only been in the upper 90s with 90% humidity to match.

I used to be one to drive my truck with the windows down and no a/c. But damn, it’s freakin’ hot! When I walk out of the cool house and get slapped in the face with wet, sticky heat, I quickly jump in my vehicle and crank the air.

I keep hoping for rain. But we’ve had a few short showers that usually make it worse. Oh well, fall is coming soon.
